DYW worked with the BUAS to deliver employer led workshops as part of the yearly Inspire Learning STEM Festival, which bring together pupils and staff from all 59 primary schools in the region.
The aim of the DYW workshops were to allow the pupils the opportunity to engage with a STEM related activity, led by the employers, providing inspiring, interactive, hands-on learning experiences. The workshops covered a wide range of industry sectors, including Digital, Engineering, Energy, Agriculture, Construction, Life & Chemical Sciences and the Green Economy.
The griemployers focused on showcasing the careers in their business that involve STEM skills. These included regional sector such as agriculture, were modern farming uses a high level of technology and science. The employers were able to challenge the common stereotypes that young people may have around certain job types or sectors, to broadening their understanding of careers valuing STEM skills. This will help the young people make more informed subject and career considerations, as they continue their educational journey into P7 and secondary school.
