Part of a national government funded programme, DYW Borders is one of 21 regional groups running across Scotland. The overall aim of each group is to provide opportunities to better prepare our young people for the world of work.
Within the Scottish Borders, we are fortunate to have a team that includes a dedicated co-ordinator within each High School area, whose role is to bring together all parties who play a part in developing our future work force, and a core team whose role is to manage and coordinate all of the activity across the Scottish Borders and work with partners at a local and national level. Their collective passion is to inspire everyone to achieve more.
By working closely with employers from across the Scottish Borders, linking them to projects within education and beyond, bring together businesses with the next generation of workforce, an essential element for business growth and future development. In giving our work a future-focused, our aspiration is to see a sustainable model of local recruitment that meets the needs of employer and jobseeker.
Through an understanding of the curriculum taught in our schools and colleges, we bring together those in education with people from the world of business. With real-world perspective, whether through school or college-based talks or workplace-based visits, early years educators, teachers and lecturers can bring to life the theory with practice, all from industry partnership working, facilitated by us.
Stepping away from the routine of education for the first time can feel daunting. Most people talk about what they’d like to do when they grow up, but now it’s getting real! Our aim is to help all our region’s young people learn that there are a vast number of opportunities available and that there’s never a wrong path.
Navigating the transition between the world of education and employment isn’t always easy for young people and it can be a challenge for parents and caregivers too. Options and alternatives are a-plenty and cutting though the huge volume of information available can feel like an insurmountable task, especially when your young person is looking to you for answers.
